
Michail Pavlos Semsis was born in 1993 in Athens. He grew up in a musical family, already starting to play the violin when he was 6 years old with his father as his teacher. He then changed to the doublebass at the age of 12, learning with Takis Kapogiannis and Nikos Tsoukalas before continuing his studies in Germany. During his studies he participated successfully at competitions and won the second prize at the Sperger Wettbewerb, and was a semifinalist and won the price for the commissioned composition at the ARD Wettbewerb in Munich. He was principal bassist in the Gewandhaus orchestra from 2018 to 2021 and principal bassist in the WDR Sinfonieorchester Cologne from 2021 to 2023. In 2022 he was named Professor for doublebass in the Hochshcule für Musik Nuremberg and one year later he quit his orchestra job in order to dedicate himself to teaching.
